Your Instagram Cheat Sheet for Life in Wilmington, NC
Moving to Wilmington is easy. Actually living here, in the know, from day one? That takes a little more. Nobody hands new residents a manual that says "the Battleship fires its cannon on Memorial Day," or "downtown floods with cars every year for the Azalea Festival parade route," or "this bridge closes for the Holiday Flotilla, plan your evening accordingly." That's the stuff you only find out the hard way — or you find out from the right Instagram accounts.

So here it is: the follow list I hand every single client who's making ILM home. Bookmark this post, follow every account below, and you'll never again miss a road closure, a parade, a flotilla, an election deadline, or a free concert at Greenfield Lake. Consider this your welcome basket. And because so many of you land just north in Pender County or just south in Brunswick County, I've added those follows too — this list now covers the whole map, from Topsail Island to the South Carolina line.
First, the accounts that keep you out of trouble
These are the non-negotiables — the ones that will actually tell you when a road is closing, when early voting starts, or when a hurricane's headed our way. Follow these before you follow anything fun.
City of Wilmington — @cityofwilm
New Hanover County — @newhanoverco
Town of Wrightsville Beach — @townofwrightsvillebeach
City of Wilmington Parks & Recreation — @cityofwilmparksrec
Wilmington International Airport (ILM) — @ilmairport
Local news, so you're never the last to know
Port City Daily — @portcitydaily
WWAY News — @wwaynews
WECT News — @wectnews
Between these three and the city/county accounts above, you'll catch every road closure, election update, and breaking story before it hits your group text.
Festivals, parades, flotillas & things worth showing up for
This is the fun part — the stuff that makes Wilmington Wilmington.

NC Azalea Festival — @ncazaleafest (the parade that shuts down downtown every spring — plan around it, don't get stuck in it)
Thalian Hall — @thalianhall
Greenfield Lake Amphitheater — @greenfieldlakeamp
Live Oak Bank Pavilion — @liveoakbankpav
Airlie Gardens — @airliegardens
Battleship NORTH CAROLINA — @battleshipnc
Cameron Art Museum — @camartmuseum
The Cargo District / Brooklyn Arts District — @thecargodistrict
For flotilla season specifically, watch the town accounts (Wrightsville Beach, City of Wilmington) plus @southportnc — the Holiday Flotilla, Southport Christmas Flotilla, and Island of Lights Flotilla each mean bridge and waterfront closures, and the towns post the road/parking details first.

North of the bridge: Pender County & Topsail Island
If you're landing in Hampstead, Surf City, Topsail Beach, or the small-town charm of Burgaw, these are your accounts. Topsail's quieter beaches and Pender's blueberry-town festivals have a whole rhythm of their own.
Visit Pender County — @visitpender (best single source for events across the county)
Pender County Government — @pendercounty_nc
NC Blueberry Festival (Burgaw) — @ncblueberryfestival
Topsail Aquarium — @topsailaquarium
Want the full rundown of Topsail's beaches, Hampstead, Burgaw, and every Pender festival worth driving for? I wrote a whole guide: Your Pender County Guide — beaches, events & who to follow.
South of the river: Brunswick County's five beaches
Brunswick holds more coastline than anywhere else around us — Oak Island, Holden, Ocean Isle, Sunset, Bald Head — plus historic Southport, Calabash seafood, and booming Leland. These are the follows to keep it all straight.
NC's Brunswick Islands — @ncbrunswickislands (regional tourism hub for all the beaches)
Brunswick County Government — @brunswickcountync
Southport NC — @southportnc
Bald Head Island — @bhislandnc
Town of Leland — @townoflelandnc
And the deep dive on all five beaches, Southport, Calabash, and the festivals that define the coast: Your Brunswick County Guide — beaches, events & who to follow.

Save this, follow it, share it
If you're new here — or you're about to be — do yourself a favor and work through this list this week. It takes fifteen minutes and it'll save you from circling downtown for twenty minutes during a parade you didn't know was happening, or missing early voting because you didn't catch the post.
And if you're house hunting anywhere between the river and the sea — Wilmington, Pender, or Brunswick — that's exactly what I'm here for. Follow along with Making ILM Home for more like this, and reach out anytime — I love helping people fall in love with this coast the way I did.
